Well pad
A well pad is the cleared, graded surface location built to host one or more wellheads, along with the equipment needed to drill and produce them.
A well pad is the constructed surface site where a well, or increasingly several wells drilled from the same location, is drilled and then produced from. Modern horizontal drilling lets operators put multiple wellbores on a single pad, reducing the surface footprint and infrastructure needed compared to drilling each well from its own separate location, which used to be standard practice.
Life on and around the pad shapes a lot of the day-to-day culture of field work, from the sense of community among crews sharing a location to the practical realities office staff sometimes misjudge, like assuming a delay is a simple equipment failure when it's actually a more complex issue tied to the job itself.
