Lean manufacturing (Kaizen)

Lean manufacturing is a management approach built around systematically removing waste from a process, and Kaizen is its signature tool: a short, focused event where a team maps out how work actually flows and makes rapid changes to improve it, rather than planning improvements slowly from the top down. Though the philosophy started in high-volume auto manufacturing, versions of it have since spread into industries with very different operating conditions, including oil and gas field operations and equipment maintenance.

Applying lean and Kaizen outside the original manufacturing context isn't automatic, though — guests describe real resistance when trying to introduce these tools into companies unwilling to change established ways of working, underscoring that lean principles have to be adapted, not copy-pasted, into a new operating environment.
